About Bryan Snyder:
Bryan Snyder has been a hardwood floor sander and installer since 1986 when he was fortunate
to land a lucrative summer job as a floor sander with R Mathison Floors of Newtown, CT. It was at
Mathison floors that Bryan met Mike Medeiros, the future owner of Custom Hardwood Floors of Danbury, Ct.
Before eventually taking a position with Mike's company, Bryan actually showed Mike how to use his floor
sander on Mike's very first job. Another influental floorman Bryan met at Mathison Floors was Tom Ruscoe,
a self-employed custom installer. Bryan eventually worked with Tom for a few years and the two tradesman
shared knowledge, Bryan learning installation of custom flooring and Tom learning the fine art of sanding
and finishing. Eventually a very large floor company, known at the time as Pheonix Floors, heard about
Bryan's skills and gave Bryan a call to sub-contract on some very prestigious homes in lower Fairfield
county. Several years later Bryan found sub-contracting work through Kent Floors of Danbury, Ct where he
became a custom design and border specialist. After these business relationships, Bryan had developed enough
word of mouth advertising to maintain a steady workflow and thus had arrived as a flooring contractor.
The move to Portland:
In 2006, after the steady creeping of property taxes and home values, Bryan sensed an approaching bursting
of the real estate bubble and sold his home in Connecticut and moved back to Portland, Oregon, where he had
attended both grade school and high school, and from where he had always wished he'd never had to move away
as teen with the family. After arriving in Portland, Bryan found work as an employee for a large company and
quickly became a top employee. Bryan suffered a severe lower back muscle tear in June of 2008 and subsequently
was unable to perform work duties until a complete rehabilitation, which unfortunately took Bryan until the height
of the current 2009 recession to achieve and the larger company had already had to let Bryan go.
Starting a business in Portland:
Once Bryan was able to work and there were essentially no jobs, it was time to become a licensed contractor
and create the same opportunities in Portland that he had made for himself in Connecticut. Bryan looks forward
to spending the rest of his career serving his favorite city and its wonderful people.
